Magnetic Nail Polish - Sally Hansen

Hey Everyone!

Today I wanted to talk to you all about a trend I have been wanting to get my hands on for quite some time now: Magnetic Nail Polish

Have any of you been noticing that the crackle polish trend has been dying out? well that's because there is a new player in town.  In the past the crackle polish has been fairly expensive, and in my own personal experience, a pain in the ass.

So I decided to do a little research on the major players and their price range:

China Glaze Magnetix: $10.50

Nails INC (most popular): $18

Layla Magnificent: $15.50

and perhaps the worst offender in price:

LCN Magnetic Polish: $10 + $16.50 for the magnet

Now, enter Sarah.  Walking through shoppers drug mart, I noticed the Sally Hansen polishes and the reasonable price tag of $9 a pop.  I decided to pick up 2 of these bad boys:

Notice how its the EXACT same bottle as the $18 Nails INC?

Ionic Indigo (L) and Graphite Gravity (R)

They both have a magnet in the lid:

and the lid comes off so its easier to handle:

Here is a shot of them in the sunlight:

I decided to take off my old polish right away and try out the grey one.  To achieve the effect:

1. Base coat
2. apply one coat of the color to all 10 nails
3. Let dry
4. Paint a second, thicker coat on one nail
5. Immediately hold the magnet over the nail for 10 seconds
6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for each nail
7. Top coat

Here is the color after 1 coat:

A pretty charcoal grey.  Not even a bad color on its own.

As you can see it turned an almost black color which I think looks awesome.

P.S I'm in love with the effect it created, it was just difficult to get a picture of it.

So long story short: worth it.

I read a lot of reviews about the Sally Hansen polish and oddly enough, most of them were negative.  I'm not sure why, perhaps people are too impatient? The directions say to shake the bottle to activate, so as an extra precaution I shook it every 2ish nails and I was seriously impressed with the end results.  Even the boyfriend noticed and commented on how cool it looked.

I just can't stop staring at my nails!  It's so pretty!

So before you delve in and purchase the more expensive polishes I suggest you try the cheaper alternative first to see if you like it.  So far i'm impressed with Sally Hansen.  I have heard Essence (that cheap makeup rack in shoppers) makes one too but didn't read very good reviews on it.

Have you guys tried magnetic nail polish? What kind? Did it work for you?

P.S Happy Birthday Mommy!! She is 32 again.....

haha yes I made that from scratch.  And yes its red velvet.

  1. I bought the same color last week!! If you put a coat of clear sparkles over it it's an easy way to achieve a simple "galaxy" mani. :)

  10. I didn't know they did magnetic polishes! Or maybe we don't have them here from Sally Hansen. Have them from other brands though and I am not sure what I make of them....
