Julep Maven August - Classic With a Twist

Why Hello Ladies,

Today I wanted to share with you my long overdue haul from Julep.  This month the theme was "Metallics and Chromes", designed to match with this seasons jewelry trends.

I don't know about you ladies, but when I saw the color lineup, I was excited.  I was a little hesitant to order because:
1. I am broke.
2. Metallics tend to be a little streaky

But it's Julep!  I couldn't resist!

This month not only marked the Metallic and Chrome line, but also introduced their revolutionary acetone free nail polish remover.

Classic With a Twist Includes Felicity, Alfre, and the nail polish remover:

Some extra surprises this month included and adorable pink box (instead of the boring white)

and we also received a reusable tote (also adorable) that can only be described as a lunch tote (too small for much else)

Now, lets talk about the nail polish remover:

I was very skeptical to give this a shot because I like the quick and effectiveness of the Acetone based removers.  Everything I have tried without Acetone in the past has been crap.

Enter Julep. This stuff works just fine.  The only thing you need to get used to is the strange almost cotton-ey feeling it leaves on your fingers.  Drives me nuts.

I like the pump action on this.  It's great for us lazy folk.

Retail: $14

Alfre

Royal metropolitian purple with a hint of shimmer

This is fun.  However, just because I like the color, doesn't mean I like the product.  This was very difficult to apply and for some reason all the polishes this month came with much smaller brushes than normal

Swatched:

Felicity

Yellow-gold metallic chrome

This is the only one I haven't tried yet.  It doesn't look very promising because the brush is also very small.  But pretty color, very cool because I don't own anything like this.

Now how could I resist the add-on's this month???

Melanie

Pastel indigo metallic chrome

So pretty!!!!!  but again terrible application!

Kim

Dark, gunmetal grey.  Smoky and mysterious.

This is my favorite from the whole line.  I couldn't resist getting it, darker colors are my favorite.  On the plus side?  It went on pretty smoothly!

Swatched:

Melanie as an accent nail, Kim on the rest.
Ah! sorry about the shadow, these are tricky to get a decent picture of.

Here is what I mean about the brushes:

The one on the right is from Felicity and the one on the left is from an older Amy.

I think I'll write them a letter (*cough* *email*) and ask them to smarten up with the brushes.  But one thing is for sure, these colors sure are pretty!  If you have got a relatively skilled hand then you can also apply these polishes and they will look fine.

Just be extra careful as they are difficult to work with.

What did you think of this month??  Did you get any add-on's?  am I the only one who noticed the brushes dwindling in size lately?

  2. That's a shame about the brushes. I hate when they are small too. Those colors are gorgeous though.

  5. Not cool about the brushes! They seem to have brush problems, they haven't quite figured it out I guess. The colours are nice! I prefer the lighter colours so I got Sienna (the gold one) as an add-on with the American Beauty box that had a dark grey (not my style) and rosey type metallic... Chrome or metallic, I'm not good at knowing the difference. lol
